If you're reading this, chances are you're stuck on the second, third, or maybe even the fourth page of Google. I’ve been there too.

When I started working on SEO for my website, I had no idea how deep the rabbit hole was. But one thing was clear  my website wasn’t where it deserved to be.

Let me walk you through a real incident  my journey from the 4th page to the 1st page of Google, how I fixed things, what I learned, and how it eventually helped me rank as the best digital marketing company in Kochi (and yes, that’s one of my main keywords too).

Let’s rewind a bit.

It all started when I searched my second keyword (I’ll keep it hidden to focus on the process). It showed up on the 4th page of Google. Not bad, but definitely not good enough.

I felt frustrated. I had good content, decent design, and even some backlinks. But clearly, it wasn’t enough. Something was missing.

The SEO Gameplan

I decided to start from scratch  not by deleting everything, but by fixing the basics and doing things right.

1. Keyword Research with Intent

I realized that my keyword usage was all over the place. I wasn’t focusing on search intent. I sat down, re-analysed my keyword, and its variations. I started using tools like Google Search Console, Ahrefs, and even just plain old Google suggestions.

I then created focused content that answered the exact question my target audience was searching for.

And yes, I made sure my keyword  like "best digital marketing company in Kochi" was naturally placed in my content without sounding robotic.

2. On-Page SEO Done Right

Next, I gave my page a full makeover:

  • Optimized my title and meta description (to actually make people click)
  • Used proper heading structures (H1, H2, H3… not just bold text)
  • Included internal links that made sense
  • Added a catchy featured image and compressed all other images

But what really worked?

I embedded a section with FAQs, which helped me rank for multiple long-tail variations of the keyword. That boosted relevance and time spent on page.

3. Technical SEO: The Silent Hero

Let’s talk about the most ignored part: technical SEO.

I ran my site through PageSpeed Insights and realized it was slow  embarrassingly slow. To fix it, I started by compressing all the images to reduce load time. I then enabled lazy loading so that images would only load when users scrolled to them. Next, I switched to a faster hosting provider, which made a noticeable difference. I also fixed all the broken links that were affecting the user experience and created a proper XML sitemap, which I submitted to Google Search Console. On top of that, I implemented schema markup, and not long after, my page started appearing with rich snippets  a small change that brought big visibility.

4. Backlinks, But with Strategy

Everyone says, “Get backlinks.” But I learned that quality beats quantity every single time.

I reached out to blogs, local business websites, and community platforms in Kochi. I didn’t beg for links  I offered value in the form of guest posts and collaborated on small projects.

One of the best links I got was from a local entrepreneur blog where I shared my insights on running the best digital marketing company in Kochi. That gave me both traffic and authority.

From Page 4 to Page 1

Fast forward three months  I checked my rankings out of habit one morning.

And there it was.

Position #6 on Page 1.

I literally stared at my screen for five seconds to confirm it wasn’t a mistake. A few more tweaks, and within a few weeks, I hit the #3 spot.

From nowhere to top  it wasn’t luck. It was consistency.

What You Can Learn From My Journey

I learned that focusing on what people actually search for is the foundation of effective SEO. Keyword stuffing doesn’t help; instead, it’s important to blend keywords naturally within meaningful content. On-page SEO should be treated like regularly grooming your website to keep it updated and user-friendly. Backlinks work best when they are earned through valuable content and genuine connections, not just created randomly. Technical SEO plays a major role and should never be underestimated, as it directly impacts user experience and crawlability. Most importantly, patience and consistency are what truly drive long-term SEO success.

Whether you're trying to rank for " best digital marketing company in Kochi" or any other keyword, remember: SEO is not a trick  it’s a process.

And the best part? The process teaches you more than just rankings. It teaches you how to build trust, deliver value, and think from your user's perspective.

If I can do it from Page 4 to Page 1  so can you.

Let this be your sign to stop overthinking and start optimizing.
